Sauls Creek Park

Putting in went very smoothly, Dawn only started reversing the trailer a few weeks ago but got the hang of it pretty quickly and easily went round the corner and down the ramp at Pine Log Boat Ramp in Apalachicola on what looked like it could be an uneventful day.

We headed off to Brown Creek to see if it was navigable with a backup plan of Sauls Creek Park (just in case) - good job we did as Brown Creek is more for Kayaking... Too narrow and far too many submerged trees for the jetskis. We passed a collection of houseboats and old sunken shrimp boats along the way to find that Sauls Creek Park is not maintained to the same standard as the park's we're used to. It's further west than we usually go and I suspect it's probably in Gulf County (as opposed to Franklin County). It's pretty back in that area but the landing itself certainly doesn't have the same level of funding.

Then came, the first of the days events, Dawn accidentally parked halfway up a bank by throttling up before reverse had engaged :-) Janice did well to hang on but jumped off before I could get the camera out. I'll detail the other events after the photos.

After lunch at the park we headed back South towards the Apalachicola River mouth but changed plan when we saw how rough the river was that day. We opted to head over to Acorn Lake where we'd kayaked in the past and see what it looked like in the Summer months...

Oops - Kayaking over a grassy entrance to a creek is no problem, but it didn't take us long on the jetskis to clog both intakes and lose all power.

I tried as hard as I could to reach that intake without getting in the water, but it's just too far... In I went, with a gator-audience no doubt... After I unclogged mine I headed over to help Dawn finish hers and then redo mine before pushing us both back out of the grass.

We then headed back to the boat ramp thinking that our day was over and dinner was just around the corner... Except... Both winches broke while loading the skis onto the trailer... So with the help of a fisherman who was at the boat ramp we strapped the skis to the trailer and left for a slow drive home.
